“A society that does not value its older people denies its roots and endangers its future. Let us strive to enhance their capacity to support themselves for as long as possible and, when they cannot do so anymore, to care for them – Nelson Mandela”

Nowadays, changing family value system, economic compulsions of the children, neglect and abuse has caused elders to fall through the net of family care. Homes for the Aged are ideal for elderly people who are alone, face health problems, depression and loneliness. Therefore, Platform Cares gives support for the elderly in our society.

In a society that worships youth, it’s easy to forget the valuable role older people play in our communities. Many continue to make a meaningful contribution well into their golden years.

Listening to their views and encouraging them to participate in decisions that affect their wellbeing creates a culture of respect. Platform Cares promotes the Healthy and Active ageing principle, encouraging the elderly to stay informed about issues affecting them, such as health and safety, technology and financial matters. We offer skills training in self defense, fire training, conflict resolution and even organic gardening.

Many of the activities at our Wellness Centres are organized by the members themselves, and opportunities are created for older people to express their opinions. The ‘Before I Die’ Wall is one example of how Platform Cares encourages the elderly to write down their hopes, dreams and aspirations.

Platform Cares seeks to reach out to a larger audience of older persons and act as a catalyst of change in bridging the gap between generations and ensuring a respectful and comfortable life for old people. Platform Cares interacts with the elderly and their caregivers at all levels family, community and the State.

Platform Cares is organizing health camps in rural as well as urban areas of the country and we have organized specialized and general health camps for older persons. In this health camp we have a team of doctors like dentists, ophthalmologists, gynecologists, orthopedics besides general physicians, pharmacists and assistants.

Platform Cares helps to disabuse the popular mind-set that regards old age with a sense of pity for their helplessness. Replacing it with an attitude of confidence, fostering respect for them and encouraging fortitude in them, and bringing a little certainty, even fun into their lives.

Vision: Platform Cares is committed to make a coordinated effort with compassion and understanding to transform social attitudes towards senior citizens. The effort is to create the infrastructure to empower every elderly person.

Mission: Platform Cares has been set up to initiate better interaction between the generations. It endeavors to:

  • Bring about a change in perceptions about Old Age
  • Initiate steps towards a senior citizens friendly environment
  • Evolve a sense of moral and social responsibility towards senior citizens
  • Advocate for the needs and rights of senior citizens
  • Extend a helping hand to senior citizens wherever required

Our volunteers are already at work in given areas. We appreciate your contribution in taking care for our elderly as we believe that you are also investing in your old age. For donations, please call +27 68 598 4367.

WHY PLATFORM CARES?

Since Platform cares is a not-for-profit organization, project costs will be competitive and surplus income will be utilized to support Platform Cares initiatives for the welfare of the elderly.

A wide range of qualified, experienced and dedicated professionals from almost all sectors is available within Platform Cares. They are eager to offer their services/expertise free of charge or at a minimum fee compared to any collaborating corporate.

This is designed to enhance the lives of Platform’s married and single senior adults. This will also bring in aged parents as we love and pamper them. We provide a setting where you can develop lasting friendships, strengthen your faith, share your talents, and stay active and healthy!
