Senior Citizens Support
A society that does not value its older people denies its roots and endangers its future. Let us strive to enhance their capacity to support themselves for as long as possible and, when they cannot do so anymore, to care for them – Nelson Mandela
Nowadays, changing family value system, economic compulsions of the children, neglect and abuse has caused elders to fall through the net of family care. Homes for the Aged are ideal for elderly people who are alone, face health problems, depression and loneliness. Therefore, Platform Cares gives support for the elderly in our society.
In a society that worships youth, it’s easy to forget the valuable role older people play in our communities. Many continue to make a meaningful contribution well into their golden years.
Listening to their views and encouraging them to participate in decisions that affect their wellbeing creates a culture of respect. Platform Cares promotes the Healthy and Active ageing principle, encouraging the elderly to stay informed about issues affecting them, such as health and safety, technology and financial matters. We offer skills training in self defense, fire training, conflict resolution and even organic gardening.
Many of the activities at our Wellness Centres are organized by the members themselves, and opportunities are created for older people to express their opinions. The ‘Before I Die’ Wall is one example of how Platform Cares encourages the elderly to write down their hopes, dreams and aspirations.
Platform Cares seeks to reach out to a larger audience of older persons and act as a catalyst of change in bridging the gap between generations and ensuring a respectful and comfortable life for old people. Darlington Steve Foundation interacts with the elderly and their caregivers at all levels family, community and the State.
